Maasai Land

Last Saturday, I attended a Maasai wedding in Maasai Land, which is south of Nairobi near the Tanzanian border. While at the wedding, I took some pictures of the surroundings and of the Maasai people. The Maasai people still hold to their traditions. They usually practice polygamy, so the men have multiple wives and lots of kids. One family will have a whole village, which is made up of about 5 or more small “huts” with a ring in the middle of the village where the animals usually stay. The Maasai are known for their red color and also for the beads that they wear. They like meat and will also drink the blood from their animals (they don’t kill them for the blood, but drain a bit at a time – like donating blood).

A typical Maasai village
(It consists of one family -- one husband, many wives, kids, and animals)
