Casual Labor
Most Kenyans do some type of casual labor. Since my roommate and I are having to experience the fun laws of casual labor, I thought I would share them with you.
Pay: 34-36 Shillings / hour (roughly $0.50 / hour)
Add 15% to pay for housing if the employee works full-time
Add transportation expenses if the employee works full-time
Full-time = 52 hours a week
Maternity leave - 3 months paid leave
Paternity leave - 2 weeks paid leave
The employer needs to provide tea, milk, sugar, bread and butter.
The house help is very nice to have, but the Kenyan labor laws are not out for the best interests of the employer.
